The other day, my friend Ming and I went to a place in the Panyu district where one of four original gardens remained from the Qing dynasty (apparently two of the gardens are in Foshan and the fourth garden is in Dongguan). When they say “garden,” they seem to mean the home itself along with the greenery around it.
- This section is artificial (yeah I know…surprise, surprise).
- There are some mango trees around the property.
- I have no idea how old the paint is on this thing. Seems a bit too vivid to be 130+ years old. Who knows.
- I was told that stained glass windows like this are a part of traditional Cantonese style.
- Ming told me that here there is western influence as well.
- Traditional roof tops adorned with mythical lions and dragons.
