It’s been a while, so I thought I would share some more interesting moments that I captured in the last month or so. Not a lot, but enough to find it briefly amusing. It’s also been getting quite hot and humid now, and this time of year (from May into October), the air-conditioning situation can be frustrating. Foreigners here will immediately notice and wonder why it is that the local teachers will turn on the A/C and keep it up between 26-28C (which is between 82-86F), as well as continue to leave the doors and windows open! I understand the deeply ingrained idea that flowing air is good (which it is, but it doesn’t help when it’s this hot and you’re on the 5th floor of the school), as well as the fact that at least in southern China (if not all over China), they are taught that cold air and water are bad for you (which in some cases it is, but come on now!) and they are afraid of being too cold. If the A/C remote controls were light sabers, then it would resemble something out of Star Wars.
Anyway, on to the rest of it.
While I was shopping for eggs, I noticed this odd display. Have you ever seen only a packaged yolk on display?

This was after we had class, and several girls handed in their writing but didn’t want me to see it for some reason. It was cute.

These two samples were from our daily dictation. Sometimes, when I correct them, I wonder how they managed to write such things.

This next one was part of a survey activity in the “Get Well Soon” unit. Students were to go around the class interviewing each other about the worst illness or injury they ever had. This response is a classic example of how entertaining Chinese kids can be. Just so you know, boys refer to their penis as “JJ.”

This last part I managed to get during our Friday games during snack time.
