Here in China, the profession of teaching is given much respect (way more than we do back in the west), and each year in September they celebrate Teachers Day. All of us teachers received bouquets and some cards (some other people even got cake—jealous!!). I was asked during lunch if we have Teachers Day back in the US, and I honestly wasn’t sure. I had to look it up, and apparently we do in May. When I think back to my childhood, though, I don’t remember us doing anything special (maybe we did, and I just don’t remember, but nothing comes to mind in terms of classroom crafts or gifts for our teachers during that time). Sad.
Anyway, it’s always nice to be appreciated for the things you do. And since I’m not a parent, this may be the only time I ever receive flowers.
