Good Eating

I recently met up with someone, and I mentioned that I love Cantonese food, particularly dim sum (and really, who doesn’t?). When we met for lunch, he took me to a place that he said served traditional Cantonese food. It wasn’t dim sum, but I was still happy at the prospect of a Cantonese lunch. Below are the things we enjoyed.

While we’re on the topic of Chinese/Cantonese food, I thought I would also take the time to contrast the kind of Chinese takeout food we serve back home in our grocery stores vs. the kind of takeout food served in Chinese grocery stores.

This may look good, but it sure isn’t authentic. Let’s take a look at some authentic Chinese takeout food from a grocery store.

Here we see dumplings with different fillings, boazi (steamed pork buns), and zhongzi (pork with sticky rice that is wrapped in grape leaves), among other items. Just some food for thought.
