The other day, my new friend Ming and I went into the city to have dim sum and just have a general look around at some places. We walked along one of the streets in “old Guangzhou,” and later on, we took a ferry back towards the metro. In the brief time that I have been here, I have heard several people mention how they think that Hangzhou is more beautiful than Guangzhou and ask me what made me decide to come here. I’ll admit that so far, Hangzhou does offer more overall scenic beauty, but I do think that the number of lush green trees here is nice. At one point, it felt just the slightest bit humid, and it comforted me because it reminded me of late spring and summer. There is a chance I might have to retract this statement when spring and summer come and there are insects everywhere. Ming also confirmed that, outside of a few days of rather cold weather, there really is no winter here.
- Ming told me that in Cantonese this translates to something like “Quite Good.”
- Rice flour cakes made with turnip.
- Dumplings filled with shrimp and vegetables.
- Poridge with taro, fish and oysters.
- Sweet taro cakes with cheese on top.
- Beef and root vegetable soup.
- A telling image of modern day social habits, especially with the younger generation. This woman spent quite a while picking her teeth and watching something on her phone while her male companion played on his.
- Canton Tower
- Some skyline
