Several weeks ago, I completed my first of two summer camps in Hangzhou. So, I decided to use my time between the two camps to hang out in Shanghai, Macau, and Hong Kong. This was my first time in Macau, and I was eager to see what the “Las Vegas of Asia” was like. I was only here for two days, so my exposure was limited.

The weather was hot and humid, with blue skies (mostly) and clean air (it helps that it’s a small city that is right on the coast). The architecture is interesting, as is the food, which has a mix of Chinese and Portuguese influences. A number of places that are located near the center of the city (Ruins of St. Paul, the Macau Museum, Senado Square) are all within walking distance of each other. It was difficult to get a taxi, and I found that I had to walk around and backtrack to find other taxi stands. Luckily, I stayed in an Airbnb rental that was across from one of the big casino hotels, so there was a taxi stand that I could always use.

It could be fun to go back and see a few other spots that I missed and try some of the Macanese food. And no, I did not end up trying the famous egg tarts. I’m not a big fan of them, but I suppose I could be persuaded to have one at one of the famous bakeries around town. In fact, going back to try the food sounds like a good idea.
